Corey Seager named World Series MVP for the second time

It was a historic night in Phoenix. The Texas Rangers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks, 5-0, to capture the first World Series title in franchise history. Shortstop Corey Seager also made history of his own, becoming only the second position player in MLB history to win the World Series MVP Award for a second time.

Seager was essential to the Rangers series win, making an impact at the plate even when he didn't make contact. Over the five games of the Fall Classic, he batted .286/.375/.762 with three two-run home runs. Each was clutch. The first tied up Game 1 in the ninth inning. The second put Texas ahead early in Game 3.

The third started the onslaught of scoring the Rangers poured on in Game 4.

Then, after being no-hit for six innings in Game 5, it was Seager who picked up Texas's first hit – which led to the winning run.

Seager's prior WS MVP came in 2020 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, when he hit .400/.556/.700 with a pair of home runs in the six-game series.

Reggie Jackson had previously been the only position player to win the World Series MVP twice, doing so in 1973 with the Oakland A's and in 1977 with the New York Yankees. That 1977 series included the famed three-homer game that helped him earn the Mr. October nickname.

Two pitchers, Bob Gibson (1964 and 1967 with the St. Louis Cardinals) and Sandy Koufax (1963 and 1965 with the Dodgers), have also won the honor multiple times.
