Coors Field Prepared LA's Closer for His Current Mound Success
USA TODAY Sports

Prior to this season with the Angels that has seen Carlos Estevez thrive, he spent the first six seasons of his MLB career with the Colorado Rockies. His best year came in 2019 when he suited up in 71 games and posted a 3.75 ERA.

However, there are a couple of interesting factors that come with playing in Colorado and one of them that many current and former players can attest to is the fact that it is far easier to hit there due to the higher altitude.

The altitude at Coors Field about 5,200 feet above sea level and that is much different than Anaheim's own levels of 157 feet. Look no further than the classic game earlier this year between the San Diego Padres and San Fransisco Giants that took place in Mexico City (which is a little over 7,000 feet above sea level).

But Estevez is now playing some of the best baseball of his career with the Halos as he is posting a 1.23 ERA and 1.14 WHIP through 22 games.

The 30-year-old RHP recently revealed that all those reps at Coors Field where he never knew what was going to happen went a long way into preparing him for success in Los Angeles.

“Colorado prepares you for anything,” Estévez said. “Every time I came into a game at Coors Field and we had the lead, it was that feeling where I can’t let anything happen. They can score three, four, five runs at Coors Field really quick and easy. I think that prepared me to close. I’m a lot more relaxed now. But yeah, if you pitch at Coors, you’re ready for anything.”

We cannot wait to see Estevez go for more saves this season and continue to shine in his new threads.
