Colorado Rockies Forced to Alter Pitching Plans After Karl Kauffmann Can't Get to Game on Time
USA TODAY Sports

Things just seem to be going from bad to worse for the Colorado Rockies.

The Rockies already have the second-worst winning percentage in the National League entering play on Wednesday (.382), and are facing a sweep at the hands of the red-hot Cincinnati Reds, but now they were forced to change up their pitching plans on Wednesday because a minor league call-up couldn't get to the game on time.

The following update on pitcher Karl Kauffmann comes from the Rotowire fantasy baseball portal:

Kauffmann, who was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque, isn't expected to be available in relief for Wednesday's game against the Reds after he was unable to arrive in Cincinnati ahead of the 12:35 p.m. ET start time, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports.

ANALYSIS
With Wednesday's projected starter, Connor Seabold, revealed to be dealing with an arm injury following an evaluation Tuesday, the Rockies scrambled to call up Kauffman as a potential replacement in the rotation for the series finale in Cincinnati. However, with Kauffmann unable to make his travel arrangements work on short notice, the Rockies will now turn to reliever Jake Bird to start Wednesday's contest in what amounts to a bullpen day.

It's another frustration in a season full of frustrations for Colorado.

However, maybe it will all end OK... at the time of this posting, the Rockies lead the Reds, 2-0, in the bottom of the third inning. Brenton Doyle led the game off with a home run.

Colorado will start a new series with the Los Angeles Angels on Friday at 8:40 p.m. ET.
