By now, it’s been a couple of days since Christian Vazquez discovered that the Boston Red Sox had traded him to the Houston Astros during a pregame interview with Boston media members.

Vazquez was one of a few pieces the Red Sox sold off at the trade deadline this past week.

He joins Trey Mancini and Will Smith as the newest members of the Astros.

But even after being traded away, Vazquez still holds Boston in high regard.

On Twitter, Red Sox insider Chris Cotillo mentioned that Vazquez had told him that the team was keeping the door open for a potential return this winter, as Vazquez will hit free agency at season’s end.

Sox Keeping The Door Open For Vazquez

To replace Vazquez, the Red Sox acquired catcher Reese McGuire from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for reliever Jake Diekman.

But it looks like the Red Sox are interested in a reunion this offseason, with Vazquez also being willing to discuss it.

It could be that the Red Sox simply traded him away to land some prospects and strengthen the farm system.

But a return to the team this winter remains a possibility.

We’ll have to see how his market develops.

There will be plenty of teams who will be searching for a catcher this offseason, so it won’t exactly be easy for the Red Sox to bring him back, especially when their main focus will be trying to sign Rafael Devers long term.

There’s no guarantee that the Astros won’t try to keep him too.

Ultimately, what happens while he’s in Houston will determine how his market will develop and play out.

A Red Sox reunion is very possible.
