Chicago White Sox Promote Exciting Prospect Acquired at the Trade Deadline
USA TODAY Sports

As the Chicago White Sox turn their attention towards 2024, they've promoted catching prospect Korey Lee, who was acquired at the trade deadline from the Houston Astros.

Lee was acquired for relief pitcher Kendall Graveman.

The White Sox put the move out on social media:

Prior to today’s series opener vs. Oakland, the #WhiteSox recalled catcher Korey Lee from Class AAA Charlotte and optioned catcher Carlos Pérez to Charlotte.

Lee is ranked the No. 18 prospect in the White Sox organization, per MLB Pipeline.

The following comes from a portion of his prospect profile:

He made his big league debut with 12 games with Houston in 2022 but spent all of this season in Triple-A before getting traded to the White Sox for Kendall Graveman in late July.

The Astros worked with Lee to quiet his load and shorten his stride after he turned pro, but he was still an extreme power-over-hit guy before 2023. After previously trying to get the most out of his well above-average raw power by launching balls to his pull side, he has settled down this season. Though he's making more contact, he's doing a lot less damage.

He's hit .278 in the minors this season with five home runs and 36 RBI. He hit 25 home runs in the minors in 2022.

He figures to pair with veteran Yasmani Grandal behind the plate and could even steal time from Grandal as he devleops and shows what he can do for the future.

The White Sox and A's begin their series at 8:10 p.m. ET.
