Chase Silseth Placed On Seven-Day Injured List

The Los Angeles Angels have used a variety of arms to navigate their way through the season, and in regard to Chase Sileth, they’re lucky he avoided a serious injury this past week.

Silseth has overall been a huge bright spot for the team because of his ability to strike guys out. His feel for the strike zone and how to attack hitters is something he’s continued to build on as he grows a valuable rapport with Angels catchers.

The Angels have been quiet on how they intended to proceed with Silseth, and recently announced a plan for their promising young arm going forward, per MLB.com:

Silseth, who was hit in the head on a throw from first to third in the fourth inning of Saturday’s game against the Mets, was placed on the seven-day injured list, retroactive to Aug. 27. In the short-term, the Halos will go to a five-man rotation of Griffin Canning, Lucas Giolito, Tyler Anderson, Reid Detmers and Patrick Sandoval. Silseth has been improving, but he won’t be ready to pitch by this weekend. He’s expected to return to the rotation during the three-game series against the Orioles from Sept. 4-6.

Giolito was recetly placed on waivers, so he’s out of the equation, but Anderson, Detmers, Sandoval and Canning is a decent enough group to continue their 2023 campaign with. Canning, however, is the name to watch for as a strong candidate to carry the load for the rotation after he showed some huge upside.

Chase Silseth and second half success in Angels rotation

Following the All-Star break, Silseth had become a very productive force in the Angels starting rotation. In his six starts since July 19, the right-hander has posted a 3.34 ERA, 4.45 FIP with 11.53 K/9.

The only real blemish to his game has been the home run ball, which should begin to regulate itself as he spends more time in MLB. Once he rejoins the Major League staff, Silseth has a real opportunity to gain some valuable momentum after the scary moment as he heads into the offseason.
