Carlos Estevez Blows Win, LA's Losing Streak in Cleveland Continues
USA TODAY Sports

This past weekend wasn't too kind to your Los Angeles Angels. The Angels were off to a good start this past weekend, taking the first of three against the Cleveland Guardians, 5-4.

However, the other two games didn't go their way. The Halos allowed six runs in the eighth inning, which was the difference in the game. And Sunday's match was more of the same, but this time it was at the hands of closer Carlos Estevez. Estevez came in the eighth inning after Patrick Sandoval pitched for 7.2 allowing five hits, two earned runs (courtesy of the two on base for the Naylor homer), one walk, and five Ks in 98 pitches. However, Carlos gave up a three-run shot to right field, breaking the tie.

The 30-year-old spoke to OC Register's Anthony Poisal and discussed what had happened in that home-run pitch.

“I just missed my spot,” Estévez said. “I threw it middle-middle, and this is the big leagues. You make a mistake, you pay for it. Definitely was not trying to go middle-middle, of course. I tried to go down and away, but I left it up and he caught it.”

The righty closer only pitched 0.1 innings and gave up two hits, one earned run, on eight pitches.

It was a tough weekend in Cleveland, and the Halos now stand only one game over .500. The Angels' struggle against the Guardians on the road continues as they have dropped seven of their last eight games at Cleveland dating back to 2021.

Cleveland is now in the rearview mirror as the Angels will now take on the Baltimore Orioles in a four-game series on the road. Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani will start things off on the mound and will try to get back into second in the AL West.
