An Answer to Curt Hogg’s Question

In the above Tweet, Curt Hogg of The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel wondered if the Brewers have ever had a prospect ranked as high as Jackson Chourio is now. I took the liberty of consulting The Baseball Cube to find the Brewers’ highest-ranked prospect going back 20 years to 2002.

So, to answer Mr. Hogg’s question: no. They have not. The closest the Brewers got was Rickie Weeks as MLB’s fifth ranked prospect in 2004.

Jackson Chourio’s Professional Career with the Milwaukee Brewers

Keep in mind, Jackson Chourio is just 19 years old. He has a long, bright future ahead of him. After the Brewers signed him as an international free agent in 2021 as a 17-year old. His first taste of professional ball came with the Brewers’ Dominican Summer League. In 45 games, Chouiro hit .296/386/.477 with five home runs and 25 RBI. He also had eight stolen bases in 11 attempts.

This year, Chourio was assigned to the Brewers’ Low-A affiliate the Carolina Mudcats. Chourio lit up the league, slashing .324/.373/.600 with 12 home runs and 47 RBI. He also had 23 doubles, five triples, and 10 stolen bases. Unsurprisingly, Chourio was promoted to the High-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. In 12 games in Appleton, Chourio is hitting .275/.345/.392 with a home run and five RBI.
