Bob Melvin Praises Luis Campusano and What He Brings to Team
USA TODAY Sports

There is only a little under a month left to go in the regular season, so it's go-time for the San Diego Padres. They find themselves in a tough spot right now, but this team isn’t made of quitters and they will continue to fight.

As the team has seen themselves fall in the standings, it has been incredibly frustrating for all involved. But there is still some hope for this club, even if it’s more looking toward the future.

Catcher Luis Campusano has been one of the few bright spots for this San Diego club this season and he continues to help them win games. Manager Bob Melvin has been impressed with the young player and recently praised him for all he brings to the table.

“It’s not only the studying and the game-calling and learning our pitchers, learning the opponents,” Melvin said. “It’s also swinging the bat and being engaged all the time. He’s been fantastic and he’s prepared every game to go out there with his starter, and they have a lot of confidence in him.”

Per The SD Union-Tribune

On the year, Campusano is hitting .305 with five home runs and 15 runs abetted in over 33 games played. He has helped shore up the catching spot for the Friars, and it has been great to see as the year has gone on.

On paper, the Padres put together an All-Star lineup, but the catcher position was one of their weak sports. Campusano has come in and made sure that it was no longer the case for this team.

He is going to be relied upon down the stretch as the Friars try to make their run toward the postseason. It’s all hands on deck for the Padres right now, and they can use all the help they can get at this point.
