Blue Jays players could receive $750K fine, jail time if seen outside ballpark, hotel

The 2020 Major League Baseball season isn't all its cracked up to be. In fact, many players already have opted out because they believe the health and safety concerns aren't worth the risk.

As of Friday, no Toronto Blue Jays player has opted out of the 2020 campaign, though that could change following the latest report from TSN's Scott Mitchell. According to Mitchell, any Blue Jays players seen outside of the ballpark or hotel could result in a $750,000 fine and potentially jail time.

Pitcher Marcus Stroman called it "ridiculous" before deleting his tweet and following it up in response saying it's the right call.

I didn’t say it wasn’t necessary. I actually believe it’s the right thing to do. I’m just saying it doesn’t seem realistic. That’s all. I want all my @BlueJays brothers happy and healthy always!

Of course the fine is just to help keep everyone safe, though some players may want a bit more freedom in regards to leaving their hotel rooms.

If any Blue Jays player opts out, they'll be joining the likes of David Price, Ryan Zimmerman, Buster Posey, Mike Leake and Ian Desmond, among others, in doing so.

Even Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout, is considering opting out because he and his wife Jessica are expecting their first child to be born in August. The three-time MVP doesn't want to risk getting his wife or child sick and is uncomfortable returning to the field with the rising number of coronavirus cases in many states.
