Baltimore Orioles Roster Moves 1/22
Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

There has been some activity in Birdland today! With pitchers and catchers reporting a mere three weeks away, hopefully, the more exciting news is on the horizon. However, today did come with a little bit of good news!

The Baltimore Orioles and lefty Cionel Perez have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year $1.2 million contract. This deal does include a $2.2 million club option for 2025. Perez and the Orioles did not come to an agreement on his 2024 salary before the January 11th deadline. Perez asked for $1.4 million, and the Orioles countered with $1.1 million.

While the Orioles have avoided arbitration with Perez, there are still four other players with whom they have not yet made an agreement. Orioles superstars Austin Hays and Ryan O’Hearn have not agreed to a contract with the club, nor have Danny Coulombe and Jacob Webb.

The Orioles also acquired Tyler Nevin from the Detroit Tigers for cash considerations. Nevin was recently designated for assignment by the Tigers to make room for a new pitcher on their 40-man roster. Nevin was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 1st round of the 2015 Amateur Draft and was traded to the Orioles in 2020, where he spent the next two years. The Tigers then purchased him in January of 2023. Nevin has a career batting average of .203 with 54 hits and five home runs. He is currently listed on the 40-man roster. However, it remains to be seen whether he will appear on the Opening Day roster.
