Astros Demote Fan-Favorite Outfielder to Triple-A
USA TODAY Sports

It's been an up and down year for Corey Julks in his first season with the Houston Astros.

The rookie got off to a hot start in April, hitting .300/.306/.443 over 20 games played. Ever since then, it's gone down hill for the Astros' eighth round draft pick in 2017.

On Monday, Houston announced that they were sending Julks down to their Triple-A Sugar Land team.

This comes on the heels of failing to record a hit in his last 17 at-bats and only one hit in his last 40.

The hot hitting by outfielders Chas McCormick, Jake Meyers and Kyle Tucker made this a fairly easy decision for the front office who would like Julks to figure out his swing at the lower level.

In the middle of a divisional playoff race, the rookie was not going to see the field much with his current struggles at the plate.

If he figures out something at Triple-A, there's a chance he could be called back up later in the season to make the playoff roster. He's shown that he can produce, sitting with a slash line of .245/.299/.353 with six home runs, 22 RBI and 15 stolen bases in his 86 games at the big league level.

The Astros have an off-day on Monday as they visit the White House in Washington D.C. to celebrate their 2022 World Series Championship.

There has been no announcement on who will be called up, but there are some speculations that it could be one of their former top prospects who gets the nod Tuesday.
