Angels star Mike Trout exits vs. Rangers after getting hit by pitch

Los Angeles Angels star center fielder Mike Trout left a Sunday afternoon game against the Texas Rangers after he was hit by a pitch in the hand.

Trout, 30, took Spencer Patton's pitch off his left hand and looked to be in a lot of pain before quickly exiting the game. He was replaced on the base paths and in center field by second-year outfielder Brandon Marsh.

Later, the Angels announced X-rays were negative on Trout's hand and that the star is considered "day-to-day."

Trout earned American League MVP honors three times from 2014-2019. In 2021, Trout played in only 36 games before he tore his calf while jogging to third base on a routine pop out. It was the latest in a mounting injury history for Trout.

So far in 2022, Trout is batting .267 with three doubles, two home runs and three RBIs. The Angels were 5-4 entering the Sunday game against the Rangers and had a 4-3 lead in the fifth inning when Trout left the game.

In 2019, Trout signed a 12-year, $426.5M contract extension with the Angels, likely tying him to the team for the remainder of his MLB career.
