Aaron Hicks ‘ready to play’ after Tommy John surgery when MLB season starts

One thing that has come out of MLB’s delayed season is players who would have missed time had it started on schedule possibly not doing so now.

New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks is one of those names. Hicks underwent Tommy John surgery last October, but now expects to be able to play when the season does start.

“I would be ready to play,” Hicks told George A. King III of the New York Post. “The plan was July to see where I am at and ready to play games. For me, I want to be back to the arm strength I had before.”

Hicks’ original timetable put him out 8-10 months. That would mean sometime between June and August, putting him right on schedule.

The 30-year-old outfielder had a breakout 2018 campaign, hitting 27 home runs and becoming known for his quality outfield defense. Injuries ruined much of his 2019, and he only appeared in 59 games. Fortunately, he looks on track to put that poor year behind him.
