Steelers’ Troy Fautanu Revealing Issac Seumalo First To Reach Out
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers made a decisive move in the 2024 NFL Draft by selecting the highly-touted offensive tackle Troy Fautanu from Washington in the first round. The decision sparked excitement among fans and analysts alike, as Fautanu was initially projected to be off the board before the Steelers' 20th pick. However, as fate would have it, he remained available, prompting the Steelers to seize the opportunity and secure him.

Following his selection, Fautanu made an appearance on the 93.7 The Fan show to share his thoughts on joining the Steelers. During the interview, he fielded questions about his draft experience and revealed that he had already received a text from one of the Steelers' standout offensive linemen, Isaac Seumalo.

“Yeah, I just saw. Unfortunately, I like lost my phone while talking to the hundreds of people that were in the building with me. I checked my phone and I saw Isaac Seumalo actually reached out to me. I met him while I was there in Pittsburgh a couple weeks ago.”

Despite the whirlwind of draft-related activities consuming his time, Fautanu mentioned that he hadn't had a chance to thoroughly go through his messages yet. However, he expressed genuine excitement about discovering who else had reached out to him.

“Getting a text from a vet guy who’s been around the league so long. I will have to look at my phone a little bit more, been kind of busy trying to say hello and bye to all the people who came. I will check my phone after this and hit those guys back up.”

Fautanu emphasized that he cherished the opportunity and wasn't taking it for granted. Being a lifelong Steelers fan, he expressed genuine excitement about the prospect of playing for his favorite team. He conveyed his eagerness to dive into work and soak up knowledge from the seasoned veterans within the organization.

“I am so grateful man. I don’t want to beat a dead horse, but I am so happy this is the organization that really did take a chance on me. I’m excited to get in the room with a lot of those guys. Those vet guys and learn from them and suck up that knowledge.”

The Steelers have demonstrated a strong commitment to bolstering their offensive line. In 2023, they traded up to acquire Broderick Jones, a move that has already shown promise. Now, with the addition of Fautanu, who was ranked considerably higher than where the Steelers selected him, their confidence in their offensive line's future is even higher.

Steelers’ Troy Fautanu Could Push Broderick Jones Back To His Natural Position

Fautanu showcased dominance in college, leading many to believe he will make an immediate impact as a rookie for the Steelers. It remains to be seen how the team will utilize him—whether they'll position him on the left or right side—but his arrival could potentially allow Jones to revert to his natural position. Regardless, the Steelers are fortifying their front line with offensive linemen who are poised to become key assets.

Fautanu's versatility to play any position on the offensive line likely contributed to the Steelers' interest in him. Nevertheless, Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin has unequivocally stated that they see Fautanu as a tackle. While it remains uncertain which side he'll occupy, the prospect of returning Jones to his natural position has ignited excitement among Steeler Nation.
