New Michigan State football star Aidan Chiles is ranked the No. 2 transfer quarterback in the nation this year.

The hype for Aidan Chiles is ever-growing in East Lansing as it seems like everyone in the country is talking about him. It is no secret that Michigan State football has a special quarterback waiting to take over this fall. But just how good is he?

According to 247Sports’ latest transfer portal rankings, Chiles is the No. 2 quarterback in the country.

Is the hype deserved?

This has always been the question on my mind since Chiles committed to Michigan State. We aren’t used to having this much hype surrounding a quarterback in East Lansing so it’s hard to believe that it’s real. Chiles even has decent odds for a first-year quarterback to win the Heisman.

When has that ever happened at MSU?

To me, however, all this hype is more than deserved. Out of high school, Chiles was a four-star recruit and a top-60 player in his class. That fact alone shows that the hype for him is valid. But taking it a step further and looking at his freshman year stats makes it even more apparent.

As a freshman, Chiles appeared in nine games for Oregon State, completing 24-of-35 passes for 309 yards. He also threw for four touchdowns and zero interceptions. Not only was Chiles solid through the air, but he was also deadly on the ground. He ran the ball 17 times for 79 yards and three more touchdowns.

That makes it very clear that the hype is valid for Chiles. Nobody’s claiming he’s going to be the best quarterback in the country next year. Nobody’s saying he’s going to turn it around in East Lansing right away and make them a contender. But it is clear that Chiles is going to make Michigan State much better and that he has a chance to become one of the best quarterbacks in the country.
