Former Bulldogs QB D.J. Shockley breaks down SEC Championship
Athens Banner-Herald-USA TODAY Sports

For the sixth time in the last seven years, the Georgia Bulldogs will be representing the SEC East in the SEC Championship game, and for the fourth time, Kirby Smart’s bunch will be matched up with Nick Saban’s Alabama Crimson Tide.

In the three previous matchups between these two teams, Alabama has not lost. It’s also important to note that Atlanta has become a home away from home for the Crimson Tide under Saban. They’ve won 16 straight games in Atlanta, with Saban going 10-1 in the SEC Championship.

Despite that, the Bulldogs enter this matchup as nearly touchdown favorites, which might have a little bit to do with the fact that they’ve won 29 straight games, a streak that includes a victory over Alabama in the 2022 national championship game.

Every time these two teams get together, it’s must-watch television, and Saturday is poised to be no different. Everything is on a line. With a win, Georgia will be back in the College Football Playoff for the third consecutive season, and Alabama can likely say the same, depending on how the rest of the conference championship games pan out. On the flip side, whoever loses will likely be on the outside looking in.

On our most recent episode of SportsTalkATL, we’re joined by a guest who’s familiar with what it takes to win one of these games. Former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback and 2005 SEC champion D.J. Shockley joins the show to break down what it will take for the Dawgs to upend Alabama for the first time in the SEC Championship.
