Alabama Edge Rusher Named Semifinalist For Lombardi Award
Gary Cosby Jr. / USA Today Sports

The Rotary Club of Houston announced the semifinalist for the Lombardi Award on Wednesday.

Alabama edge rusher Dallas Turner is one of 12 players honored as a semifinalist after his strong season for the Tide through eight games.

Turner has recorded 34 total tackles this year along with 10.5 for a loss and seven sacks. The junior out of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., leads the Tide in quarterback hurries with 10 and has forced two fumbles.

His sack total is good enough for second in the Southeastern Conference and seventh nationally. He was able to get big sacks at the end of Alabama's game against Arkansas and Tennessee to essentially slam the door on the Tide's opponent's chances at winning both games.

The Lombardi Award is given to college football's top offensive or defensive lineman who exemplifies the character and discipline of NFL Hall of Fame Vince Lombardi. The finalists will be announced on Nov. 15 and the winner will be announced at a banquet in Houston.

Alabama has had three winners in the past, Cornelius Bennett in 1986, Jonathan Allen in 2016 and most recently Will Anderson in 2022.

Bennett tallied 287 tackles, 21.5 sacks, and 3 fumble recoveries across his four year career with Alabama. Allen totaled 69 tackles with 16 for a loss and 10.5 sacks in his award-winning season while Anderson put up 51 tackles with 17 for a loss and 10 sacks of his own in his award-winning season.

The other semifinalists include Joe Alt out of Notre Dame, Danny Stutsman out of Oklahoma, Brock Bowers out of Georgia, Cooper Beebee out of Kansas State, Jer'Zhan Newton out of Illinois, Jonah Elliss out of Utah, Ole Fashanu out of Penn State, Talliese Fuaga out of Oregon State, Laiatu Latu out of UCLA, Jared Verse out of Florida State and Zach Minter out of Michigan.
