College Football Bowl Game Gets Historic Sponsor
Image Press Agency

College football tends to add something new to their slate of bowl games every year. Whether this means changing the playoff format, changing bowl venues, adding bowl games, or changing sponsors, there is usually something worth noting.

Now, one bowl game is set to get a historic sponsor next season. This sponsor will be the first of its kind in the college football bowl game landscape. On top of this, the sponsor is endorsed by a very famous celebrity. Read below to find out more about the celebrity, the sponsor, and the bowl game impacted.

Arizona Bowl Sponsored by Snoop Dogg and an Alcoholic Brand

The Arizona Bowl will have a new sponsor starting next season. According to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports, the bowl will now be sponsored by Snoop Dogg. Along with this new sponsorship, it will be presented by Snoop Dogg’s Gin & Juice alcoholic brand. This is notable because it is the first college football bowl game to ever have a direct alcoholic brand sponsor.

Arizona Bowl Sponsor History

This is not the first sponsor that the Arizona Bowl has ever had. To fully grasp this, we need to look back at the history of this bowl game.

It originated nine years ago, making its debut at the end of the 2015 college football season. Back then, the sponsor of the Arizona Bowl game was NOVA Home Loans. This lasted for the first five years of the bowl’s existence.

Since then, the sponsorship of this bowl game has been a bit tumultuous. In 2020, Offerpad real estate agency agreed to sponsor this bowl game. Unfortunately, this only lasted one season.

Then, Barstool Sports agreed to sponsor the Arizona Bowl for the next three seasons. However, Pima County pulled funding for this bowl game during this sponsorship. The reason for this was due to controversial statements made by David Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports. You can argue this was a big reason why the Arizona Bowl chose to find a new sponsor for next season.

College Football Moving Forward

It may be seen as controversial for a college football bowl game to be sponsored by an alcoholic brand. This is especially the case considering half of the players likely participating in the game cannot legally drink alcohol.

However, this type of sponsorship may open up the floodgates for bigger alcoholic brands to get involved with other bowl games. It certainly marks a historic change in college football. Now, we will have to wait and see how much of an impact this has on the college football landscape.
