Will Alabama go after former 5-Star DL Anthony Lucas?
Patrick Breen / USA TODAY NETWORK

Former five-star defensive lineman, Anthony Lucas is in the transfer portal, and the Alabama Crimson Tide is a team who could go after him.

Lucas is a product of Scottsdale, Arizona. The 6-foot-6, 270-pounder is a former five-star recruit, and he is currently a true freshman.

The Tide will be without veteran defensive linemen, Byron Young and DJ Dale, next season as they move on the NFL, but they will return a few defensive linemen with experience in Jamil Burroughs, Jaheim Oatis, Tim Smith and Jah-Marien Latham. However, Nick Saban has admitted Alabama wants to get stronger up front defensively, and it recruited during the 2023 recruiting cycle with the goal in mind.

Alabama signed an impressive 2023 defensive line class with signatures from James Smith, Edric Hill, Jordan Renaud and Hunter Osborne. This group will have an opportunity to play early and often, but Lucas could be a welcomed addition to join this group.

Texas A&M secured a National Letter of Intent from Lucas over Alabama, USC and others. He was one of the Crimson Tide’s top 2022 defensive lineman targets, and Alabama was considered a top choice for him heading into his decision. Lucas played in seven games for Aggies last season, and he finished with ten tackles.

USC and Oregon are among Lucas’ top choices at the moment.
