Texas A&M QB Kellen Mond declares for 2021 NFL Draft

Texas A&M Aggies quarterback Kellen Mond announced via Twitter on Thursday that he is forgoing his extra year of college eligibility and entering the 2021 NFL Draft:

With Mond leading the offense, the Aggies notched a 9-1 record and fell only to the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide in their second game of the season. He recorded 188 completions on 297 passes (63.3%) for 2,282 yards with 19 touchdowns and three interceptions during his final college campaign. Mond also contributed 294 rushing yards and four scores on the ground.

According to the school's official website, Mond walks away from Texas A&M holding the all-time program records for career passing TDs, passing yards, completions, and total offense. As Dean Straka of 247Sports explained, Mond tied one-time Heisman Trophy winner and former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel atop the list for the most total touchdowns (93) among Texas A&M players.

Charlie Campbell of Walter Football believes Mond will be a late-round draft pick:

"Mond improved in 2020, showing more accuracy. He had mixed outings versus Alabama and Vanderbilt, making some beautiful passes and struggling at other times. He had a huge game against Florida to lead the Aggies to a fourth-quarter comeback win, but the inconsistency makes Mond a challenging evaluation. Some see him as a poor man's Colin Kaepernick, and others think he is a better version of Josh Dobbs. That could put Mond as a mid-round-backup type for the NFL. Some team sources said they gave Mond a third-round grade, but others have him graded on Day 3."
