Penn State is among the teams that has expressed interest in a receiver who just entered the transfer portal from Alabama.

Shazz Preston entered the transfer portal last week after two seasons in Tuscaloosa.

He told Nittany Sports Now’s sister outlet, The Portal Report, that Penn State’s among the schools that has contacted him.

Other schools include Auburn, Baylor, Boston College, Kansas State, Ole Miss, Nebraska and Wisconsin. Over Preston’s two seasons in Tuscaloosa, he didn’t record any receiving stats but did get playing time on special teams. Before Alabama, Preston was a four-star recruit from Louisiana’s St. James High School.

Penn State’s receivers room was generally thought to be the teams biggest weakness over the 2023 season.

KeAndre Lambert-Smith (53 catches, 673 yards, four TD) put up respectable numbers. But he was the only Penn State WR who eclipsed 300 yards.

We already know that the receivers room in 2024 will look different. Days after Penn State football’s 2023 season ended with a Peach Bowl loss to Ole Miss, Dante Cephas entered the transfer portal. The same day, former Ohio State WR and PA kid Julian Fleming (Southern Columbia) ended weeks of speculation by announcing his commitment. Still, there’s work to be done for Penn State to supply QB Drew Allar with the talent necessary for him to build on his 2023 performance next season.

Penn State has also addressed its offensive line, which will be losing three of its starters, and did so with another PA kid.

This past weekend, Nolan Rucci— a PSU legacy who initially chose Wisconsin over Penn State— announced Saturday that he was transferring to Penn State.
