LSU players are racking up the preseason accolades as it was announced on Tuesday that B.J. Ojulari was named to the Nagurski Award watch list. Ojulari also was selected to the the First-Team defensive honors on the preseason All-SEC Team.

The junior defensive end will enter his second season for starting on the defensive line for the Tigers. He has appeared in 23 games. Ojulari has 71 career tackles to go along with 16.6 tackles for loss and 11.0 sacks.

Ojulari has become the leader of the Tigers front seven and will look to have a breakout year going into his junior year. The Marietta, Georgia native made an instant impact once he stepped on campus. In in his freshman season, Ojulari played in all 10 games in the shortened season in 2020. He added 16 tackles and 5.0 tackles for loss. He would pick up 2020 SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week honors for his performance against South Carolina.

Ojulari would continue to make an impact for the Tiger defense in 2021 when he started in 12 games as a sophomore. The star defensive end would lead all Tiger defensive lineman with 55 tackles. Ojulari would also lead the Tigers in sacks with 7.0 and ranked second the team in tackles for loss with 11.5 Ojulari was able to pick up SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week honors in 2021 as he did in 2020 in the game against Central Michigan.

The Bronko Nagurski trophy has been awarded annually since 1993 to the best collegiate football defensive player. The last Tiger to take home the trophy was Glenn Dorsey back in 2007 during LSU’s national championship season.
