In today’s Fact or Fiction, I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION.
Manning looked very good in the Spring Game, but anyone saying there’s a QB controversy or that he can push Quinn Ewers is lying to themselves. Manning is on track to be a valuable backup this season and start in 2025, and his improvement from last spring to this spring looks impressive, but let’s pump the brakes. The Spring Game was clearly set for him to have a big day with no attempt at a pass rush and a soft defense.
Jayden Maiava is there now from UNLV, but he’s still learning the system, and the QB room at USC is oddly thin, something that has never been a problem for Lincoln Riley as a head coach. Moss has been solid in the spring, coming off his six-TD bowl game replacing Caleb Williams, but he’s also made some errors. He’s a large drop from Williams, but he’s the guy.
The Oregon State transfer went 12-of-26 for 177 yards but showed some signs as a runner, so it’s not all bad. And in his defense, the FSU defense came after him in full force, unlike some other spring games where everything was held back. But I still have concerns after a pedestrian career at Clemson and a so-so year at Oregon State. Leaps and bounds are needed, but we haven’t seen them yet.
