Chris Olave names his Mount Rushmore of Ohio State wide receivers

College football fans often debate which universities generate the best professionals at a certain position, and with the number of gifted receivers Ohio State has produced, the school has a strong case for the title of WRU.

Since there are so many options to choose from when deciding which wideouts are the best in the program's history, one former Buckeye was asked to give his Mt. Rushmore.

During a recent appearance on "The Richard Sherman Podcast," Saints WR Chris Olave provided his top four Buckeyes, and despite owning the school's all-time receiving touchdown record, he excluded himself. Instead, the 23-year-old selected Cris Carter, Ted Ginn Jr., Garrett Wilson and Marvin Harrison Jr. 

Although Carter was more successful as a pro, there's no denying he's an all-time great Buckeye. His 2,725 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns each rank fourth in program history. In 2000, Carter was named to the Ohio State Football All-Century Team, and three years later, he was inducted into the Ohio State Varsity O Hall of Fame.

As for Ginn, he was more than just a receiver for Ohio State, excelling as a return man for the Buckeyes, which earned him first-team All-American honors. The 14-year NFL vet returned 64 punts for 900 yards and 38 kicks for 1,012 yards during his three seasons at Ohio State.  

Wilson, Olive's former teammate and 2022 NFL Draft classmate, accumulated 2,213 receiving yards and 24 total touchdowns during his time in Columbus. The reigning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year is poised to build on his dominant debut season now that he'll be catching passes from new Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Meanwhile, Harrison, the son of Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison, is entering his junior season as the Buckeyes' No. 1 receiver and a contender for the Heisman Trophy. Last season, Harrison was sixth in the country in receiving yards (1,263) and scored 14 touchdowns. Additionally, Harrison has a good chance of becoming the highest-drafted wide receiver in Ohio State history, assuming he declares for the 2024 NFL Draft.

In ESPN's Todd McShay and Jordan Reid's respective mock drafts, Harrison is selected second overall by the Arizona Cardinals. While the official order of this upcoming quarterback-heavy draft won't be known until the 2023 season concludes, Harrison is well-positioned to be the first non-passer taken off the board. 

Should Harrison become a first-rounder, Ohio State would break its tie with Tennessee for the record of most first-round wide receiver selections (11).

Many Ohio State receivers have succeeded in the NFL, but only two have been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame: Carter and Paul Warfield. It's still far too early for Olave to start thinking about Canton, but after recording 72 receptions for 1,042 yards as a rookie, he's off to a promising start.
