Jermall Charlo Arrested For DWI After Car Crash; WBC Strips Him – ‘His Career Is Over’

Jermall Charlo was reportedly arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.

According to reports, the boxer was driving his Lamborghini when he crashed the car into another vehicle on May 7 in Houston. Charlo then argued with the other driver following the collision, after which the boxer drove away. A spokesperson for the Pearland Police Department claims the authorities tried to pull Charlo over.

However, the American allegedly ignored the siren until he was cornered at a red light a mile from the collision. Charlo was then arrested and taken to a police station. He underwent a sobriety test, which showed that his blood alcohol levels were over .15. The boxer was then arrested for driving while intoxicated and fleeing from the scene of the crash. It is claimed Charlo caused over $200 worth of damage. Luckily, no one was injured in the crash. His attorney, Kent Schaffer, denies suggestions the boxer had drugs in his system. The boxer has been released on a $9,500 bond.

Charlo’s Crash

“Jermall has been in training. He has not been using any type of drugs,” Schaffer said

This is not the first time Charlo has been in trouble with the authorities. He was arrested and charged in 2022 with assaulting a member of his family. The charges would later get dropped. However, it has shown that the boxer struggles to keep his personal life in check outside the ring. He had been absent from the sport for over two years due to mental health struggles. Things have not gotten better, with the WBC stripping him of his middleweight belt.

He also is not on good terms with his brother, Jermell Charlo, with worries that the boxer’s mental health challenges are still there. While Charlo is still the WBC Middleweight Champion, he has spoken extensively about his struggles. His last performance was against Jose Benavidez Jr. He beat the boxer via a unanimous decision. Although the win was one-sided, Benavidez was a 154-pounder fighting above 160. Charlo has now targeted a fight with Canelo Alvarez, saying he will box him in September. But based on his behaviour outside the ring, that is unlikely.

Charlo’s Future

“Imma fight Canelo… imma get my brother revenge in September. I’m going to get the revenge. I’m not enjoying this…no more. The money ain’t the issue. I got a birthday coming in a couple of days. I did enough. [And] I made history. Dealing with all kinds of cases of [being] bipolar, being by yourself, thinking that you shutting the world out is gonna help you.

“But you need to be able to speak to someone and help you get past whatever you’re going through. It just feels like everybody is against you. I don’t care if you’re in the Uber, a cab, wherever, everybody is just against you. [And] I couldn’t tell that some people weren’t against me. It was just that at the moment it’s the way you’re feeling and I turned my back against pretty much the world. [And] I just had to start getting help with it and it made me a lot better,” Charlo revealed
