Jared Anderson won a one-sided unanimous decision against Ryad Merhy, live from the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi.
Coming into the fight, Anderson was hoping to make a statement. He had been arrested for evading the authorities during a police car chase. It was the second time he had been arrested in a year after getting in legal trouble for driving while intoxicated and being in possession of a gun. But the American failed to light up the crowd.
The fight was devoid of much action. He started the fight on the front foot, backing up his opponent with the jab. That was followed up by huge right hands to the body, leaving Merhy with the task of simply surviving through the round. Jared is known for being a switch hitter, something he used in the second round. The American increased the pace through the southpaw stance. However, Merhy’s high guard kept Anderson at bay.
Merhy found some succes, landing a counter left hand in the second. The crowd began booing as Anderson’s punch output reduced. Merhy was simply focused on making it to the final bell. The third round was much the same, with Anderson dominating the action, only for Merhy to land a body shot before the end of the round.
Near the halfway point, Anderson increased his power punches in rounds six and seven. However, Merhy stayed out of harm’s way, even with the American landing over 40 punches per round. As the fight entered the tenth and final round, Merhy began swinging. However, he failed to land anything of note, as Anderson won an easy decision: 100-90, 100-90, and 99-91.

“I wanted to give the fans a better show, but what can you do? I stayed sharp for 10 rounds, that’s the biggest takeaway. [And] I gotta make some changes. I got hit with a few punches. He didn’t even come to fight, so I shouldn’t have got hit at all. We’re coming to knock everybody off. All of them [I want next]. If I’m ranked with you, if your name is near mine, we can get it cracking, man. ‘The Real Big Baby,’ we coming to knock everybody off. We coming for them titles and we come to…win,” Anderson
