One of the most memorable and controversial games from the Chicago Bears’ 2021 season was a 29-27 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football in Week 9.
Corrente was involved in controversy this past November when he called a questionable taunting penalty on Chicago Bears linebacker Cassius Marsh during a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Irvin saw his first game action of the season last week as a temporary call-up in the Bears’ loss against Arizona.
Linebacker Danny Trevathan will miss the rest of the Bears’ season. Trevathan was placed on injured reserve on Friday. He missed the first two days of practice this week with a knee injury.
The NFL has cracked down on taunting in 2021 and no play has put the policy under the microscope more than the penalty Cassius Marsh received during the Chicago Bears' 29-27 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 9.
The officiating in the Bears-Steelers game has been a hot topic of conversation since Monday night, where Tony Corrente has come under fire for his crew’s officiating in Chicago’s Week 9 loss.
Marsh said after the fact it was "pretty clear to everybody who saw it that I wasn't taunting," and plenty of individuals posting about the matter on Twitter and other platforms have agreed with his assessment.
One of the biggest points of contention this season has been the NFL’s new taunting penalty, which has been subjective and ridiculous considering football is a game of emotion.
The NFL believes that Monday night’s controversial taunting call made by referee Tony Corrente against Bears linebacker Cassius Marsh was correct. But the league won’t say it directly.
The NFL reportedly has addressed the taunting penalty that was called on Cassius Marsh.
The NFL has a lot of explaining to do after the way Monday night’s game between the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers was officiated. It seemed at one point that a terrible pass interference call would be the storyline from the game.
Moments before the flag was thrown, Marsh had sacked Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on third down, which would have likely forced the Steelers to punt. Marsh did a "spinning jump kick" to celebrate.
The poor officiating was the biggest storyline to come out of the Bears’ 29-27 loss to the Steelers on Monday Night Football. Chicago registered 12 accepted penalties for 115 yards, and there were plenty of questionable calls and no-calls that left NFL fans perplexed about how one-sided the officiating was at Heinz Field.
As the Pittsburgh Steelers preseason comes to a close, so too do any opportunities for fringe roster players to prove they deserve a spot on the final 53-man roster.
Cassius Marsh has been all around the NFL, and his time in New England was certainly memorable for all the wrong reasons. For the Pittsburgh Steelers, they have grown accustomed to watching former players leave, and trash the team either on their way out, or when they are asked about their time in Pittsburgh later in their career.
Marsh played nine games with the Pats in 2017.
