Injury-plagued Colorado Rockies right-hander Scott Oberg announced his retirement on social media Tuesday, while also revealing a move into a part-time role as a special assistant in the club's baseball operations department.
Chronic blood clots completely derailed the promising right-hander’s career, and Oberg has since taken on a role in the Rockies’ scouting department to remain active with the team.
A number of contracts around MLB have club options for 2023. Some of them will be easy calls for their respective teams one way or the other, while there are others that’ll be more borderline.
Right-hander Scott Oberg has not pitched since the 2019 season, and while the veteran Rockies reliever has not officially confirmed his retirement, his recent interview with Jack Etkin of Rockies Magazine indicated that Oberg is taking steps towards a post-playing career.
It remains to be seen if the Rockies will start a full-fledged rebuild immediately once Arenado is gone, or perhaps if Colorado will take the rebuild route whatsoever.
